Visitors
Welcome to St. Nicholas.  We are pleased you chose to be here today.  Please join us downstairs for Coffee after the Liturgy, so we have the opportunity to meet you.  If you have any questions about the Orthodox Church or the St. Nicholas parish in particular, we will be glad to answer.

Though we may only offer Holy Communion to Orthodox Christians who are properly prepared through fasting and Confession, we invite you to come up at the end of the service, venerate the Cross and partake of the prosphora (blessed, but unconsecrated bread) – if you wish.

The Bishop is Coming!
His Grace, Bishop Benjamin,
will be with us October 13/14.
Please plan on attending.

Greetings
This past week, Gregory Parker called Fr. John.  The Parkers are doing well in Alaska.  Greg was deep into study for his finals.  This summer, the Parkers will be staying in Kodiak for the summer, since their plans to go to St. Paul Island fell through.  Greg will work on completing his course in Alcoholic Counseling (a required course for all St. Herman’s seminarians.)

Wednesday Evenings after Vespers On those Wednesdays during the Summer, when there is no Council Meeting, Fr. John will be happy to meet with whomever comes out to the City Brew on Grand and 17th for a discussion on some aspect of Church belief.

The one who is perfect in love and has reached the summit of detachment knows no distinction between one's own and another's, between faithful and unfaithful, between slave and freeman, or indeed between male and female.  But having risen above the tyranny of the passions and looking to the one nature of men he regards all equally and is equally disposed toward all.  For in him there is neither Greek no Jew, neither male nor female, neither slave nor freeman, but Christ is everything and in everything.

St Maximus the Confessor

The enemy of our salvation especially strives to draw our heart and mind away from God when we are about to serve Him, and endeavors to adulterously attach our heart to something irrelevant.  Be always, every moment, with God, especially when you pray to Him.  If you are inconstant, you will fall away from life, and will cast yourself into sorrow and straightness.
- St. John of Kronstadt

Christ is in our Midst!
Reply:  He is and ever shall be!
